Josh Singer: “We sold it as a ‘limited’, and we always imagined it as a ‘limited’. We planned it as a limited series, and I feel like – I hope for people that really connected to the book, and for people that are coming to it fresh – it feels complete onto itself.” And in other ways, I feel like this is meant to be a limited series. And so, in some ways, I feel as though there’s more story to tell. I wanted it to be an ode to the different ways that that journey looks for all of us, and an ode to found family. And it wasn’t until I had my child in 2016 that I realized this was the primal story of someone becoming a parent, and all the ways that that journey looks different for all of us. I kept picking it up, and putting it down. Laura Dave: “It’s possible It’s so funny, it took me about 10 years to write this book. Dave says a follow-up may be possible, while Singer, who co-wrote the films Spotlight and The Post, also shared his mixed outlook and uncertainty about the popular drama's future. She journeyed across America, speaking to white communities and communities of color alike, “to tally the hidden costs of racism to us all” (xx). After realizing that economic theory-which holds that individuals think in their own rational self-interest-couldn’t answer these questions, McGhee decided to explore what could. This was also true in the presidential election of Donald Trump, whose economic policies had negative consequences for everyone. After overhearing a senator complaining about people having babies with different women and ducking child support by claiming bankruptcy-a racial stereotype-McGhee realized that bad economic policy is motivated not solely by corporate lobbyists but also by racism. Former Demos president McGhee undertook her first project for the organization by studying credit card debtwhich, by the early 2000s, was far more likely to affect Black and Latinx families than White ones. She points to a bankruptcy law that made debt more burdensome for most Americans. A head-on consideration of the costs of American racism. She explains how her background in public policy led her to investigate this question through economic policy, and then she describes how bad economic policy disproportionately affects communities of color. McGhee opens The Sum of Us by asking why Americans can’t have social goods like well-funded schools, a functioning public health system, and reliable infrastructure. I have to admit, however, this might be a cat of a different color. Anne was also, Weir posits, a passionate radical evangelical, with considerable influence over Henry regarding Church reform. Ably weighing the reliability of contemporary sources and theories of other historians, Weir also claims that though perhaps sexually experienced, Anne was technically a virgin before sleeping with Henry. Rejecting as myth that Henry VIII, desirous of a son and a new queen, asked his principal adviser Thomas Cromwell to find criminal grounds for executing Anne Boleyn, the prolific British historian Weir (The Six Wives of Henry VIII) concludes that Cromwell himself, seeing Anne as a political rival, instigated one of the most astonishing and brutal coups in English history, skillfully framing her and destroying her faction.
